Are you a friendly, outgoing person who enjoys helping people? Are you interested in deploying to National Canadian Red Cross Society disaster responses? The Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS), a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking several Information Services (IS) Tier 1 Volunteers from across Canada for the IS Department. The IS Tier 1 Volunteer can support IS Emergency Management or IS Operations, or both. IS Emergency Management involves supporting IT Kits which are remote offices consisting of network equipment, several computers, and a printer, that are deployed during a disaster response. IS Operations involves assisting the Operations Team with regular operations duties. Key Responsibilities IS Emergency Management Maintain IT Kits. Ensure all returned equipment is functioning properly. Repair and/or replace defective or missing equipment and consumables. Update equipment as required. Inspect equipment quarterly. Maintain documentation. Deployment. Assist with setting up, operating, and taking down the IT Kit while on-site. Assist users with related questions. IS Operations Assist IS Operations staff with tasks as necessary. Record, track and document the problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution. Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved. Qualifications The incumbent must have the commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and model the core competencies of the CRCS: team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused. This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check. Knowledge & Experience Working knowledge of hardware and software, including: Windows PCs. Printers. Wi-Fi gateways. Network switches. Apple devices, iPhone, iPad. Microsoft Office. Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening and questioning skills. Solid written and verbal English-language skills Knowledge of French is an asset. (French is required in Quebec locations) Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment Experience with the CRC as a paid or unpaid worker is a definite asset Personal Attributes Excellent customer service orientation. Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Availability IS Emergency Management volunteers will be placed on an availability list for assisting during CRC responses to small and larger scale disasters. While not an obligation of the position, availability to respond is a definite asset IS Operations; 1 day per week for a minimum of 8 weeks or more.
