Opportunity Description:

IRCOM’s Newcomer Driver’s Education Program (NDEP) is looking for 16 individuals to assist newcomers with their in-car training. These individuals must be encouraging, skilled drivers, and meet MPI’s criteria for a supervising driver: • Hold a valid Class 1F, 2F, 3F, 4F or 5F licence; • Have held a Class 5F licence for at least three years; • Have their own insured vehicle. The tasks of the Driving Instructor will be to: • Meet with the NDEP staff to set a training schedule for each participant. • Meet participants at IRCOM and take them from there to locations appropriate for the driving skills they are practicing. • Supervise participants as they practice their in-car driving skills. • Provide tips and feedback to participants to improve their driving skills. • Return participants to IRCOM when the training session is done. • Communicate with IRCOM staff any questions, concerns, or ideas for improving the program. • Be the sole occupant of the front seat of the vehicle, besides the driver. • Always be in a condition to lawfully assume operation of the motor vehicle, including maintaining consciousness. • Maintain a Blood Alcohol Concentration less than .05. • Make use of their own vehicle for instruction times. This vehicle must be insured to 5,000,000$ of third party liability. IRCOM will cover the expense for upgrading to this coverage from whatever current coverage volunteers have. Volunteers are asked to volunteer approximately two hours a week for a minimum of three months. Volunteers must clear a Child Abuse Registry check and a Canadian Criminal Record check. Both may be conducted through IRCOM. The Driving Instructors will have access to all the benefits offered to IRCOM volunteers. This includes an orientation to volunteering at IRCOM, access to any trainings offered to IRCOM volunteers such as First Aid/CPR and other trainings, as well as any trainings related to the specific role. It also includes recognition at Volunteer Recognition Events and a reference reflecting the contribution made to IRCOM.
